JEFFERSON – James Edward Black, 73, died Monday, May 23, 2011.
Born in Pendergrass, he was the son of the late Jerry Morrow and Ruby Cannon Black. He owned and operated Black’s Store for 46 years and was a member of the Galilee Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Billie McCain Black, Jefferson; son, Gary Black and friend Melanie Towe, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Chad and Denise Black, Jefferson; and grandchildren, Dusty Black, Commerce, McCain Black, Jefferson, Tyler, Caleb and Mason Alexander, all of Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 25, at 11 a.m., from the Galilee Christian Church with Minister Tom Plank officiating. A private burial will take place on a later date with Chris Parr, Ed Thompson, Stuart Satterfield, Bobby Poss, John Jennings, Ronnie Smith, George Edmondson and Bob Sosbee honored as pallbearers. Bradley Williamson will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, May 24, from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Mary’s Hospice, P.O. Box 6588, Athens, GA, or the Galilee Christian Church Building Fund, 2191 Galilee Church Rd., Jefferson, GA 30549.
