CRAWFORD - Evelyn Carter Nix, 86, died Monday, May 2, 2011.
A native and lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Jessie DeLay and Clarence Thomas “Doc” Carter, and the widow of Edward Paul Nix, who died in 1992.
Survivors include five children, Gail (Herschel) Stevens, Gilbert, Ariz., Glenn (Wanda) Nix, Mike (Debbie) Nix, Dennis (Janie) Nix, all of Colbert, Patricia (Max) Peck, Hull; brother, Carlton Carter, Sandy Cross; grandchildren, Wendy (David) Howell, Penni (Steve) Walden, Kasie Nix, Corbett (Sarah) Pledger, Spence (Amanda) Nix, Russ Nix, Christie (Brian) Haynes, Danielle (Jake) Denison and Callie Peck; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Lord & Stephens, EAST, with Pastors Dennis Nix and Mark Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Sandy Cross Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Spence Nix, Russ Nix, Corbett Pledger, Steve Walden, Randy Carter and Bruce Carter.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and may be reached at the home of Dennis Nix.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Quiet Oaks Nursing Home Activity Fund.
