HULL – Joe Strickland Jr., 63, died Monday, April 11, 2011, surrounded by his family at his bedside.
Born on October 4, 1947, in Winnsboro, S.C., he was the son of the late Joe and Dorothy Lewis Strickland. He retired from Clarke County Corrections in 2005 after 30 years of service. He served his country in the United States Marines and fought in the Vietnam Conflict, where he was wounded and later developed Agent Orange Disease. Mr. Strickland was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Ann Dixon Strickland; and a son, Russell Strickland.
Survivors include brothers, Virgil Strickland (Carolyn), Nicholson, Lamar Strickland, Gainesville, and John Strickland, Bishop; sisters, Jean Bennett (Milford), De Armanville, Ala., and Teresa Smith, Oxford, Ala.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 14, at 3 p.m. from Lord & Stephens East Chapel with the Rev. Buford Lockman, Chaplain Maitland LaForce and Warden W.C. Bolton officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roger Streetman, Benji Streetman, Scott Bramlett, Marcus Green, Aaron Reinking and Tyler Streetman. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, April 13, from 5 to 8 p.m.
