Stephen Smith

Stephen Lon Smith, 57, of Winder, died Monday, August 4, 2008.

Born in Big Rapids, Mich., He was the son of the late George and Helen Line Smith. He was a control tower operator for Vulcan Materials, Norcross Plant, and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army in the DMZ in North Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Mike Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Mary N. Smith, Winder; son, Jonathon Smith, Colorado; step-son, Christopher Power, Washington State; step-daughters, Jeanna Cole, Independence, Kan., Patricia Smith, Georgetown, Colo., Kathy Smith, Durango, Colo., and Christine Power, Texas; six grandchildren; brothers, Kelly Smith, Kim Smith, Danny Smith, Chris Smith, Troy Smith and Terry Smith, all of Michigan; several nieces and nephews.

No services will be held at this time.

Smith Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of arrangements.
