JEFFERSON – Summie Gregory Rankin, 93, died Thursday, March 17, 2011.
Born in Jefferson, he was the son of the late Charles Edwin and Margaret Heaton Rankin. He was the owner/operator of the Lee Street Laundry Mat and Carwash in Jefferson and previously owned the Rankin Auto Supply, Tire Store and Service Station. He was a Minister of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 55 years. Mr. Rankin was preceded in death by siblings, Cortez, Weldon, Lester and Mickey Rankin, Inez Nunn, Irene Rankin and Edith Geer.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, June Potts Rankin, Jefferson; son and daughter-in-law, Robert Gregory and Mary Coleman Rankin, Jefferson and a host of friends throughout the community.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Martin Harbeck officiating. The family will receive friends, Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m., prior to the service. A private family burial will take place in the Woodbine Cemetery.
The family requests that flowers be omitted and memorials may be made to the Flowery Branch Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, c/o Mark Singleton, P.O. Box 156, Braselton, GA 30517.
