ATHENS - CW4 (Ret) William T. Hargrove, Sr. died Friday, March 11, 2011.
He was born in Greer, S.C., on January 15, 1930, the son of the late Cicero and Eunice Hargrove.
A 30-year Army veteran, he always dreamed of flying and accomplished that dream as a pilot for the United States Army. Upon his retirement from the Army in 1981, CW4 Hargrove left Army Aviation a "legacy of duty" as Master Army Aviator.
He was married to Annie Jones and he leaves to carry on his legacy, four children, Thomas Hargrove, Jr., Cheryl Hargrove Barnes, Gwendolyn Hargrove Ruff and Timothy James Hargrove; two sisters, Luradine Timberlake (Queens, N.Y.) and Linda Guion (New York, N.Y.); ten grandchildren, Jerrell Hargrove, Joshua Hargrove and Justin Hargrove; Desmond Thomas and Mielan Barnes; Christopher Ruff, Andre' Ruff and Teneshia Ruff; Jasmine and Shanice Myricks; two great-grandaughters, Amaiya Ruff and Kaylen Ruff; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and numerous friends.
William will be dearly missed by the many lives he touched so gently, yet so deeply.
The celebration of CW4 Hargrove╒s life will be held 12 noon on Thursday, March 17 at Gardenview Funeral Chapel, 605 Olympic Drive, Athens with burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, 3655 Atlanta Highway, Athens.
At his request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Athens Area Human Relations Council, Inc., P.O. Box 495, Athens, GA 30603.
Gardenview Funeral Chapel, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
