Sara Wages (3-10-11)

ATHENS – Sara Stewart Wages, 82, died Thursday, March 10, 2011.

Born in Madison County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah James and Nay Hami Gunter Stewart. She was a lifelong resident of this area and retired from UGA/Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Mrs. Wages was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert H. Wages Jr.

Survivors include her children, Elaine Wages Rousey, Cornelia, Catherine Wages Smith and husband, Jimmy, Madison, Darrel L. Wages and wife, Beth, Colbert, Donna Wages Field and husband, Greg, Athens, Melissa Wages Lewis and husband, Rick, Nicholson; siblings, Ruth Human, Athens, Frances Duckworth, Colbert, and Jimmy Stewart, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 13, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Lord & Stevens Funeral Home with Pastor Rick Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Bethaven Cemetery (Nowhere Road). The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, March 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. Pallbearers will be Ken Mize, Gabe Lewis, Trenton Hooper, Robbie Crook, Josh Brudon and Donnie Burroughs.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
