ATHENS – Dorothy Lavender Moon, 88, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011.
Born in Athens, she was the daughter of the late Lee Roy and Georgia Lavender. She was a member of Colbert Baptist Church. She had served as the secretary to the executive director of the United Methodist Commission on Higher Education. She was a member of the DAR. Mrs. Moon was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John Loy Moon.
Survivors include a son, John Larry Moon and wife Linda Moon, and their sons, Charlie Moon and Chad Moon; son, O. Lee Moon and wife, Debbie, and their daughters, Lori Moon and Erin Moon Dobbs (Matt).
Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, at 11 a.m., from Old Fork Cemetery in Carlton with Chaplain Maitland LaForce officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, March 10, from 5 to 7 p.m.
The family gives thanks to the staff of Morningside Assisted Living for their loving care.
