WINDER – Douglas Dewitt Allen, 59, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
Born in Commerce, he was the son of the late Cleveland Dewitt Allen and Rosa Lee Allen Bridges. He was a locksmith in the maintenance department at the University of Georgia and previous to his employment with the University, he was a self-employed brick mason. He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Delores “Dee” Allen, Winder; daughter and son-in-law, Amy Allen Lester and Scott Lester, Colbert; stepdaughters, Dana and Mike Nations, Watkinsville, Denise Townsley, Ponca City, Okla.; sister, Elaine Threlkeld, Hull; half sister, Dawn Allen, Winder; grandchildren, Gavin Lester, Grayson Lester, Justin Nations and Elizabeth Nations; and two nieces, Ginger Bray and Tanisha Pate.
Memorial services will be held Friday, February 18, at 11 a.m., from Lord & Stephens West Chapel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, February 17, from 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince Avenue Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
