WINTERVILLE – Lonnie Lee McDaniel, 63, of Oglethorpe County, died Saturday, February 5, at his residence.
Born in Athens on September 15, 1947, he was the son of the late James William McDaniel Sr. and Josie Mae Warren McDaniel. He worked with FMS/Compass Industry and retired in 2010 due to illness. He attended Athens High School and served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1969 during the Vietnam Era. He returned to the United States Army National Guard and retired with 27 years of service. Mr. McDaniel was preceded in death by his brother, James William McDaniel Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Olean Rich McDaniel, Oglethorpe County; son, Chris McDaniel, Oconee County; stepsons, Tony Freeman, Hart County, Jimmy Love, Oconee County and Johnny Love, Oglethorpe County; sisters, Mildred Jones, Winterville and Betty Jones, Macon; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 8, from the chapel at Pruitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Power officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 p.m. till the funeral hour.
Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to the Northeast Georgia Cancer Center, 3320 Old Jefferson Road, Athens, GA 30607.
