CRAWFORD - James Monroe Paul, Sr., 70, died Wednesday, February 2, 2011.
A native and lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of Irene D. Paul and the late Deward A. Paul, and was preceded in death by a brother, William L. Paul. Mr. Paul was a “grand civil servant,” having served as Oglethorpe County Surveyor for over 40 years.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Lessie T. Paul; children, Teresa Paul, James Monroe Paul, Jr. and his wife Michelle, Bridget Irene Paul and her husband Pete Burroughs; sisters, Oneta P. Nation (Frank), Jeanette P. Berryman (Joe Mac-deceased) and Dare P. Smith (Morris); sister-in-law, Peggy G. Paul; grandchildren, Christopher D. Burroughs, James Monroe Paul, III, Hudson H. Looney and Alexandria M. Looney; great-grandchildren, Evie Burroughs, Emerie Burroughs and Abram Burroughs; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 5, at 2 p.m. at Clouds Creek Baptist Church with Mr. Derek Paul and the Rev. John Parker officiating. Entombment will be at Athens Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Stacy Carroll, Charles Cecchini, Tim Wilkes, Tim Lewallen, Kayle Cowherd and Rufus Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Weaver, Dennis Paul, Darryl Howard, Jimmy Paul, Jeff Wilkins, Michael Mathews, Marvin Flanagan and Harry Gabriel. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, February 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
