MCDONOUGH – Louisia “Beth” Brown, 72, died Wednesday, January 19, 2011.
She grew up in a large family in Fannin County. After graduating from high school she attended Truett McConnell College in Cleveland, where she played varsity basketball and later received her Associates Degree. After college, she moved to Atlanta and worked in banking. It was in Atlanta that Beth met her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Brown, who preceded her in death. After marriage, Beth and Kenneth moved to Clayton County, where they raised their family and attended First Baptist Church of Jonesboro. Beth was a longtime choir member and greeter at First Baptist Church. For many years she was employed by Clayton Mental Health Center before becoming an accountant for Delta Air Lines. She retired from Delta Airlines, Inc. in 2000, after 23 years of service. After retirement, Beth spent much of her time caring for and serving others, especially her grandchildren. Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by a brother, William C. Underwood Jr.
Survivors include a son, Kevin R. Brown, Cocoa Beach, Fla.; and daughter and son-in-law, Kenda Brown and David L. Meeks of Marietta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan and Jean Underwood, Blue Ridge, and Brannon and Kathleen Underwood, Orangeburg, S.C.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Carmi and Kenneth Wood, Blue Ridge, and Berniece and Cecil Harper, Mineral Bluff; sisters, Anne Fleeman, Blue Ridge, and Frances Ramsdell, Irmo, S.C.; grandchildren, Matthew Meeks, Alyssa Meeks, Abigail Gibbons and Kristen Meeks; sister-in-law, Jean Underwood, Spring Hill, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 22, at 11 a.m. from the First Baptist Church of Jonesboro with the Rev. Irvin Pearre officiating. Burial will be at Copper Ridge Memorial Gardens in Blue Ridge at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, January 21, from 5 to 8 p.m.
