ATHENS - J. Edward “Ed” Crawford, born June 25, 1927, in Center, GA to Charles E. Crawford and Lois Belle Fields Crawford. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Hale Crawford; children, Karla Crawford-Pinson (Lane), Athens, Lisa Crawford-Pringle (Lon), Atlanta, Susan Crawford, Newburyport, Mass.; four grandchildren, Melanie Suarez (Larry), Katelyn, Madison, and James Pringle; sister, Mary Clyde Seagraves; brother, Ronnie Crawford; and nephews, Stanley and Tim Seagraves.
He served two years in the C.I.C., United States Army in Japan before returning home to his career with the Life of Georgia for 38 years as an agent and staff manager. He and Virginia enjoyed many wonderful trips throughout the world due to his award winning sales record.
He spent a lifetime enjoying the outdoors with a passion for hunting and fishing and well known among his peers for excellent marksmanship. He thrived on nurturing his gardens and had a reputation as an unparalleled "gadget-master" spending hours in his workshop.
He was a member of the Fresh Sign Club, a dedicated supporter of the Masonic Home of Georgia, a former member of Athens Fraternal Order of the Elks and until his health failed, an active member of Prince Ave. Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 15, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Lord & Stephens, WEST. A private interment will follow. Visitation will be Friday. January 14, from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
