LAVONIA – Elmer Gerald Fields Sr., 69, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011, following a pre-existing heart condition.
He was born and raised in Madison County and graduated in the class of 1959. He worked at Oxford Sportswear in Commerce for many years and retired as owner of Fields Auto Parts in Comer, after having begun the business in 1981 which after 29 years, still operates today. Mr. Fields was preceded in death by his father, Cleo Fields; stepfather, O.J. Haggard; son, Elmer Gerald Fields Jr.; and grandchild, Samantha Bone.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon Kittle Fields; their children whom he was so proud of, Patricia (Mark) Parham and Melanie (Joey) Bone, all of Comer, and Brian (Kelly) Fields, Arkansas; six grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Shelley and Maranda Parham and Kristina and Katherine Bone of Comer, and Gabriella and Abigail
Fields, Arkansas; his mother, Thelma Haggard Draper; and brother, Dwayne Fields, Danielsville; nephews, Greg, David and Wade Fields; brother-in-law, Charles Wier; and sister-in-law, Martha Sargeant, Commerce.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 8, from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Mike Sarna and Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial was in the Grey Hill Cemetery.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
