JEFFERSON – Donald Dwight Porter Sr., 81, died Friday, December 31, 2010.
He was born on December 3, 1929, in Jefferson, and was the son of the late Laster and Neil Storey Porter. He was founder of the Porter Insulation and Porter Truss since 1964. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Jefferson and was a former Deacon of Academy Baptist Church. Mr. Porter was a former director with First National Bancorp., and was a former board member of the Jefferson School Foundation. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Porter was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Pinson Porter; a brother, Storey Porter; and sister, Louise House.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Jody Porter, Don and Kim Porter and Brantley and Kelli Porter, all of Jefferson; grandchildren, Lora Gary, Joseph Porter, Blaze Porter, Sky Porter, Tradd Porter and Camille Porter.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 2, 2011, from the First Baptist Church of Jefferson with Michael Helms officiating. Burial was in the Woodbine Cemetery with Frankie Bray, Randy Pinson, Chuch Herbert, Melvin Porter, Joseph Porter, Blaze Porter, Sky Porter and Tradd Porter honored as pallbearers.
