ATHENS - Adeline Hanson Bennett, 97, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 28, 2010.
Born in Greene County, on November of 1913, she was the daughter of the late Ida Cleo and Essic Monroe Hanson and grew up in Bostwick. Her husband, Charles Curtis Bennett, Sr., preceded her in death after 64 years of marriage in 2004. Residing in Athens for 51 years, they raised their six children: the late Charles Curtis Bennett, Jr. (Pat), Don Bennett (Libby), Dianne B. Bahnsen, (Lynn), Lyn Bennett, Richard Bennett (Susan), and Angie B. Prince (Tommy).
Mrs. Bennett was an exceptional homemaker who delighted in providing a loving, Godly home for her family and was admired by friends and family for her baking skills. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends and╩loved recalling wonderful memories of places she'd been. She was a loving wife, a tender mother, a doting grandmother, and a thoughtful friend. For those who knew her well, she╒ll be remembered for her love of music and her quick wit and humor. She especially touched the lives of her children through her Godly example and her dedication to her family. Her children arise and call her blessed. (Proverbs 31)
In her early years, she attended Bostwick schools and Cox College in Atlanta. She worked briefly at Richs and Sears in Atlanta before her marriage in 1939.
She was a faithful member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years, where she sang in the choir, was a member of the Joyful Faith Sunday School class, and participated in XYZ.
Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother (Alva Hanson), her son (Buddy), a daughter-in-law (Kay Bennett), and a granddaughter (Merry Katherine Prince).
She is survived by her two sons, her three daughters, and her ten grandchildren: Curt Bennett (Michelle), April B. Porter (Steve), Jason Bennett, Tap Bennett (Dee Dee), Billy Bennett, Meg B. Titshaw (Keith), Ben Bahnsen (Betsy), Brett Bahnsen, Rollin Prince (Stephanie), and Nathan Prince. Also surviving her, are 14 great-grandchildren: Connor Porter, Ally Porter, Kannon Porter, Victoria Bennett, Jaclyn Bennett, Caroline Bennett, Meredith Bennett, Taylor Titshaw, Lauren Titshaw, Tate Titshaw, Magill Bahnsen, Gracie Bahnsen, Bennett Bahnsen, and Whit Bahnsen; as well as several cousins and brothers- and sisters-in-law.╩ Her home was always filled with love and laughter.
The services for Mrs. Bennett will include visitation at Lord & Stephens, West, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, and funeral services at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, at Prince Avenue Baptist Church, Bogart, with the Rev. Doug Nix officiating. Mrs. Bennett╒s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the Prince Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund, the WMSL Radio Station, or the Athens Pregnancy Center.
