MONROE – John S. Dickinson, 82, died Sunday, December 26, 2010.
He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Monroe, a Deacon for several years, a member of George Baker, Sr. Sunday School Class and a money counter for 20 years. He was a 1946 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S. degree in forestry. He retired as Forester with the Georgia Forestry Commission after 32 years of service. He was a proud Eagle Scout and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was 5th generation of Dickinsons in Walton County.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sara Standard Dickinson, Monroe; children, Dawn and John Parks, Jefferson, the Rev. John Roy and Donna Dickinson, Duncanville, Ala.; sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Bill Lepere, North Attleboro, Mass.; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and many cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 29, at 2 p.m. from The First Baptist Church of Monroe with Glen Money and Todd Ware officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery in Monroe. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
