Ernest Leroy Simmons, 76, of Westminster, S.C., died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at his residence.
Born in Banks County on May 9, 1932, he was the son of the late James and Fannie Smith Simmons. He was retired from Patterson Pump and then was employed for a number of years with Quality Foods. He was Baptist and was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his wife, Alice McIntyre Simmons.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Ronnie Holcomb and Cindy Foster, all of Toccoa, Brenda and Milton Moore, Eastanollee, sons and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tammy Simmons, Mack Simmons, and Ricky Simmons, all of Toccoa; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Cantrell, Gainesville, Jennie Redd, White County, and Linda Collins, Mt. Airy; and four brothers.
Graveside services were held Saturday, August 2, at Leatherwood Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Teddy King officiating. Pallbearers were David King, Randall Chatham, Ronnie Holcomb, Danny Simmons and Larry Moore.
Acree-Davis Funeral Home, Toccoa, was in charge of arrangements.
