‘Gabby’ Hayes

HIAWASSEE – Kenneth Talmadge “Gabby” Hayes, 77, died Saturday, December 25, 2010.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Hiawassee, Towns County Lions Club, the Masonic Lodge #131, Knights Temple Order of the Eastern Star, and the Yarab Shrine Temple. He retired from General Motors after 30 years of service and enjoyed coaching his sons in Dixie Youth Baseball. Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessie Hayes; 10 brothers and sisters; and two grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Hayes, Hiawassee; sons and daughter-in-law, Kenny Hayes, Moreno Valley, Calif., and Tim and Tracy Hayes, Woodbury; step-children, Jeff and Janet Johnson, Sparta, Mo., Beverly and Greg Jewell, Sparta, Mo., Dale Johnson, Valerie and Dan Chastain, all of Hiawassee, Russell and Valerie Johnson, Bozeman, Mont., Greg and Brandy Johnson, Dallas, Texas; sister, Belle Bell, Morrow; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30, at 1 p.m., from the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Revs. Ollie V. Hayes and Harold Ledford officiating. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, at Macedonia Baptist Church, 1675 Hwy. 76, Hiawassee, GA 30546, and 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 29, at the Tim Stewart Funeral Home, 300 Simonton Rd., SW, Lawrenceville, GA 30046 770-962-3100.
