DANIELSVILLE - Jesse L. Anderson, 73, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on December 22, 2010.
Jesse was born on April 8, 1937, in Barrington, N.J., son of the late Rev. Jesse and Elizabeth Anderson. He served his country as a Marine from 1955-1959. He married Vera Warren in Flint, Mich. on August 12, 1958.
Jesse joined the Washington, D.C. Police Department in 1960. He became a lieutenant and supervised the Communications Division until he retired in 1981, having been a part of many historical events during his 21 years of service on the force.
Jesse moved with his wife and two youngest children to Danielsville, in 1983, where he had various jobs, most notably his position as supervisor at the Clarke County Tax and Tag Office and his job with State Farm Insurance Agent, Jack Thornton. He retired permanently because of health problems.
Jesse was a faithful member of Bluestone Baptist Church, where he was known for his involvement in business meetings and his ability to quiet the crowd for the blessing before church dinners with a boisterous “Hey!” He also enjoyed going to visit the elderly and shut-ins and attending Senior Saints when his health permitted him to do so.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Bruce Anderson and a grandson, Justin Brown.
Jesse is survived by his wife of 52 years, Vera Warren Anderson; sons, Darrell (Debbie) Anderson, Greensboro, N.C. and Darren (Toni) Anderson, Frisco, Texas; daughters, Diana (Michael) McCormick, Pensacola, Fla. and Denise (Tony) Brown, Colbert; grandchildren, Stephen Anderson, Union, Miss., Daniel, Bobby, Joshua, Amanda, Caleb, and Amy Anderson, Greensboro, N.C., Casey Brown, Stephens, and Tiffany Brown, Colbert; and a brother, Dale Anderson, Cran Gevrier, France.
The family would like to extend their warmest thanks to Jennifer Hamrick, Christine Davis and Jessica Wilson for the loving care that they provided to Jesse during his times at home.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 28, at 2 p.m. at Bluestone Baptist Church in Danielsville, with the Revs. George Lovely, Talmadge Ethridge and Ray Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clarke Davis, Scott Filkins, Mark Goss, Fred Hall, Jimmy Johnson, Wayne Johnson, Matthew Lee and Randy Lee.
The family will receive friends Monday, December 27 from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bluestone Baptist Church Senior Saints, P.O. Box 480, Danielsville, GA 30633.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements.
