PENDERGRASS – S. J. Bryant, 89, died Tuesday, December 21, 2010.
Born on April 28, 1921, he was the son of the late Charlie and Julie Phillips Bryant. He was retired from the Jefferson Mills, the Johns Manville Company and was a member of the Jackson County Baptist Church. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during WWII and was a POW in Stalag 4B. Mr. Bryant was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Campbell Bryant; grandson, Eric Hogan; brothers, Roosevelt, Garth, Otis, C.H., Lillious, Lester and Ellis; and sisters, Evon, Reba, Juanita and Florence.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Darrell Hogan, Pendergrass; brother, Julian Bryant, South Carolina; granddaughter and husband, Jennifer and Tony Jones, Sebastian, Fla.; and great-granddaughter, Kristen Jones.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 23, at 2 p.m., from White Plains Baptist Church with Jack Lawson, Keith Cudd and the Rev. Kevin Page officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Tony Jones, Dave Farrow, Tommy Healan, Clay Wilson, Charlie White, James Scroggs, Danny Hogan and Charles Taylor honored as pallbearers. Jason Scroggs will be an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
