HOMER - Duey Finley, 84, died on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at his residence.
Born on January 18, 1926, in Columbus, he was the son of the late Acie and Alice Bryant Finley. Mr. Finley was also preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Ellis. He was the last of his immediate family. He was retired from the United States Army and proudly served his country for 20 dedicated years having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Sears in Atlanta with 22 years of service as a security officer and was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. Mr. Finley provided one of this area’s largest displays of Christmas lights each year for everyone to enjoy.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Kesler Finley, Homer; daughters and sons-in-laws, Diane and Jay Judy, Walterboro, S.C., Elsie and Barry Scercy, Homer; daughters, Debbie Hunt, Charleston, S.C., and Jeanie Clemmer, Maryville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at Saturday, November 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Revs. Roy Rogers and Gene Todd officiating. Burial was in Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Chad Payne officiating and full Military Honors.
