ILA – Robert Anderson Vanderburg, 79, died Thursday, November 11, 2010, at his residence following a sudden illness.
He was the son of the late Robert Matthew and Myrtle Spry Vanderburg. He was of no church denomination, just a “believer walking in the ways of Righteousness.” He retired from Carrier Transcold as a welder and served his country proudly in the United States Army, having served in Korea. Mr. Vanderburg was preceded in death by a son, Otis Colley; and granddaughter, Melissa Vanderburg. He enjoyed being with his family and good neighbors and friends and his special dog “Val”, and Army dog “Chum.”
He met and married Lois Keenan Vanderburg, the love of his life, 39 years ago. To this union was born one child, Robert David Vanderburg.
Survivors include a very special daughter-in-law, Casey Cowart Vanderburg; and special grandson, Cade Vanderburg; other children, Tommy and Phyllis Vanderburg, Salisbury, N.C.; special stepdaughter and caregiver, Christine Wood; stepsons, Randy Williams, Edward Colley; sister, Shirley Vanderburg Phillips, Ila; brothers, Ray and Max Vanderburg, China Grove, N.C.; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 14, from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Revs. Winfred Bingham and James Ware officiating.
Ivie Funeral Home, Commerce, was in charge of arrangements.
