EASTVILLE COMMUNITY - Marjorie Whitehead Kincaid, 90, Oconee County, died Friday, October 22, 2010.
A native of Oconee County, she was born August 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Charles C. and Annie Laurie Malcom Steelman. For many years she was active in the Oconee County Farm Bureau and was the first office manager and served on the Board of Directors. She was District Georgia Farm Bureau Chairwoman, North Georgia District Chairwoman, Vice Chairwoman for Georgia Farm Bureau Women, as well as, Chairwoman╩of the Georgia Farm Bureau Women for six years. Mrs. Kincaid also served on the State of Georgia Farm Bureau Board of Directors for nine years. She served as the Union Christian Church president of Women's Fellowship, and was on the State board of Georgia Christian Women╒s Fellowship.
Mrs. Kincaid was President of the Eastville Community Improvement Club, winning first place in the Athens Area. She was a 4-H club leader for 15 years, Oconee County Homemaker of the year and╩received the 10th Congressional District Homemaker's award. Mrs. Kincaid was the managing editor of the county newspaper, The Oconee Enterprise, and was selected for inclusion in "Who's Who of American Women".
She was preceded in death by her husbands, William Harold Kincaid and Lewis Talmadge Whitehead; a son, James Malcom Whitehead; and son-in-law, John Britt Chandler Jr.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Chandler; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert L. ╥Bob╙╩and Joan Whitehead, C. David and Peggy Whitehead, and John M. and Pam Whitehead; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 24, at Oconee Chapel╩Funeral Directors with the Rev. Dan Fuller and John Whitehead officiating. Burial was at Union Christian Church.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Oconee Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
