NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Hershel C. Williams, 60, died Sunday, September 26, 2010, following an extended illness.
Born in Jackson County, he had lived in Jefferson and was a 1967 graduate of Jefferson High School. He was the son of Doris Williams and the late Lacy Williams of Commerce. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by a brother, Henry Williams.
He was a retired Sergeant First Class E7 of the United States Army, and a Vietnam War Veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Elizabeth Drake Williams; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Michael Zamalis and their two children, Jacob and Alleni, York, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Dustin and Helen Williams and their two children, Ethan and Lacy, Newport News, Va.; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Donny Sheridan, Commerce.
A private memorial service was held at his home with family and close friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Kidney Dialysis Foundation or the American Heart Association.
