COMER – Sarah E. McConnell, 97, died Sunday, September 26, 2010.
A lifelong resident of Comer, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Inez Power Loftis. She was in the first class of women to graduate from the University of Georgia. She, along with her husband, the late Elmer McConnell, were the owners of Comer Hardware and Supply from 1955 until 1985. She was also a longtime member of the Comer Woman’s Club and was a member of the Comer First Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughters and son-in-law, Rachel McConnell and Shuratt Whitworth, Lavonia, and Patricia M. Hancock, Comer; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 29, at 2 p.m., from the Comer First Baptist Church with the Rev. Rodney Owens officiating. Burial will be at Comer Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, September 28, from 6 to 8 p.m.
