WINDER – James Harold “Jim” Farmer Sr., 82, died Sunday, September 19, 2010.
Born in Oconee County, he was the son of the late Loyd Edward and Lucy Comer Farmer. He graduated from Oconee County High School in 1945 and from The University of Georgia in 1951. He opened the Farmer’s Prescription Shop in 1960. He was a member of the Winder First Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon, a member of the Gideons, and was a director with The Peoples Bank from 1966 to 2000. He was a former president with the Barrow County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Farmer was a veteran having served in the United States Army.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joan Farmer, Winder; sons, James M. “Jimbo” Farmer and Michael Farmer, both of Winder; daughter, Karen Lewis, Watkinsville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sara Marshall, Watkinsville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 21, at 11 a.m., from the Winder First Baptist Church with John Talley and the Rev. Lester Hall officiating. Burial will be at Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 21, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
