HARTWELL – Robert Gunter “Bob” Hughes, 48, died Wednesday, September 15, 2010.
Born on June 22, 1962, in Athens, he was the son of Betty Ann Gunter Westbrook of Danielsville and Ted Hughes and stepmother Patsy Hughes of Colbert. He was a deputy sheriff of Hart County Sheriff’s Department and a former policeman for Hartwell Police Department. He was the owner of B & D Homebuilders, member of Nancy Hart Masonic Lodge # 690, Hart County Humane Society, and was a United States Navy veteran. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by brothers, Joe and Tim Hughes.
Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Deborah Ann “Debi” Welborn Hughes, Hartwell; daughter, Amanda Brooke Hughes, Statham; sons, Robert Tate Hughes, LaGrange, and Jonathan Mouchet, Hartwell; brothers, Conrad Westbrook, Greenfield, Ind., and Gene Westbrook, Conyers; grandchild, Cash Mouchet; sisters, Sissy White, Madison, and Susanne Gomez, Rome; uncle, Frank Gunter, Arnoldsville; aunt, Carolyn B. Cullifer, Colbert; and several other aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 19, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Joe Black officiating. Burial will be in the Kent – Gunter Cemetery in Oglethorpe County with Masonic Honors.
The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Saturday, September 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. The family is at the home of Hazel Welborn, 460 Melody Lane, Hartwell, GA.
