LAWRENCEVILLE - Robert “Bobby” Elton Akin, 58, born on September 17, 1951, died on Wednesday, September 15, 2010.
Born in Midwest City (Tinker Air Force Base) in Oklahoma, he was the son of Robert M. “Bob” Akin of Winder and the late Katherine “Sue” Kimmons Akin. He was a United States Navy Veteran and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Master's Degree in Agriculture in 1980. He went to work for Gold Kist in Moultrie in 1980 and retired from Gold Kist as Director of Corporate Protection in Atlanta. In 2005 he started Akin Stone and Landscape in Winder. He loved his model airplanes, gardening, University of Georgia football games, Atlanta Braves and whitewater rafting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother, loved ones added.
Survivors in addition to his father include his wife, Toni Collins Akin, Lawrenceville; a daughter and son-in-law, Katie and Joey Wolpert, Hartwell; son, Chris Akin, Lawrenceville; grandson, Will Wolpert; brother and sister-in-law, Alan and LeAnne Akin, Winder; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and his dog Bandit.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 18, at Wages Lawrenceville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the service at the funeral home.
