JEFFERSON – Miss Lucille Jackson, 101, beloved longtime resident of Jefferson, died Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at BJC Nursing Home in Commerce.
Born on July 9, 1909, in Jefferson, she was the daughter of the late Herschel and Jesse Mae Dukes Jackson. She was a homemaker and member of the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church. Miss Jackson was preceded in death by four siblings, Donald Jackson, Lovett Jackson, Bert T. Jackson and Lillie Mae Hunter.
She grew up in Jackson County and was a beloved friend of many families in the Jefferson area. Miss Jackson had retired from The Jackson Herald, where she had been an inserter for many years.
Survivors include her nephew, William T. Hunter, Fayetteville; three nieces, Ann Burley and Mamie Joyce Hill, both of Jefferson, and Bessie Smith, Commerce; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 18, at 1 p.m., in the Sardis Presbyterian Church in Jefferson with the Rev. Roger Cooper officiating. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the church, prior to the service. Burial will be in the Hurricane Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, September 17, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
