MONROE – James “Rudy” Rudolph Saunders, 64, died Saturday, September 11, 2010.
Born in Athens he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Randolph and Sara Elizabeth Miller Saunders, and stepmother, Karla Saunders, Winder. He was of the Baptist denomination, was a master carpenter, and was a Western style square dance caller having called for Jug Tavern Squares and Lakeshore Squares. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Airfoce. Mr. Saunders was preceded in death by a grandson, Drew Herdman.
Survivors in addition to his stepmother include his life-partner, Patty Rowland, Monroe; a son, James Rudolph “Chip” Saunders Jr., Abilene, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Diane and Shawn Herdman, San Antonio, Texas (Patty’s children) Kay and Ricky Rowland; grandchildren, Evan Herdman, Ethan Herdman, Stephanie Ellis and Kristin Hooper; stepbrothers and their wives, Jay and Trudy Rogers, Senoia, Tracy and Judy Rogers, Marble Falls, Texas; and a sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Tim Clark, Carlton.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 14, at 2 p.m., from Smith Memory Chapel with the Revs. Billy Pittman and Donnie Pennington officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday, September 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.
