ELBERTON – Edgar Jackson Andrews, 87, died Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at his residence.
Born in Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late Jonathan and Mattie Belle Grimes Andrews. He was a member of Falling Creek Baptist Church and was a former owner/operator of Andrews & Smith Body Shop. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army in the European Theater. Mr. Andrews was preceded in death by four brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Kathryn Smith Andrews, Elberton; sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Jackie Andrews, Comer, and Don and Connie Andrews, Elberton; sisters, Laura Grimes and Clara Driver, both of Elberton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a close nephew, Dennis Tiller; and special friend, Bessie Wilson.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 2, at 4 p.m., at the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Jack McVeigh officiating. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will be at the home and will receive friends at the funeral home from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service. Grandsons and Fred Smith will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers are optional and memorials may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church or to TJ & Friends.
