JEFFERSON – Dr. Charles H. Uhl, 92, formerly of Ithaca, N.Y., died Sunday, August 29, 2010.
He was born on May 28, 1918, in Schenectady, N.Y., the son of the late Harry C. and Florence Haupt Uhl. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a Professor of Plant Biology with Cornell University for 50 years. While at Cornell he served as an advisor to the Sigma Chi fraternity. He served as an usher at the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca, was an honorary fellow with the Succulent and Cactus Society of America, and was a longtime member of the Ithaca Stamp Club and American Philatelic Society.
Survivors include his wife, Natalie W. Uhl, Jefferson; children, Natalie J., Mary, Charles and Elizabeth; brother, Robert I. Uhl, Atlanta; and grandchildren, Toby, Hugh and Amy.
Memorial services will be held Friday, September 3, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Revs. John Simmons and David Tinsley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of service.
