Thedral Madeline Morris, 85, of Quiet Oaks Health Care Center, died Saturday, August 28, 2010, following an extended illness.
She was the daughter of the late Hoyt Reece and Ethel McDaris Morris of Hull. Mrs. Morris was preceded in death by a sister, Nadell M. Morris of Augusta; and a very close and beloved family friend of many years, Martha Reames, Albany.
Survivors include sisters, Mary Sue Sluder (Harold), Weaverville, N.C., and Carlene Williams (Elliott), Winterville.; a brother, Elco Morris, Atlanta; eight nieces; five nephews; 32 great-nieces and nephews; and 25 great-great-nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Madison County, she attended the Patterson School and Colbert High School. Following graduation, she attended the University of Georgia and began teaching third and fourth grade in Columbia County at the young age of 19. She also taught high school senior sciences in Winterville from 1946-1948. She went on to attend Florida State University where she received certification as a Social Worker and was employed by the State of Georgia Department of Family and Children Services for 34 years. She was Supervisor of Child Placement in Dougherty County where she retired in 1977 and continued to live in Albany until 2008. Her caring nature and dedication to her family and to family services touched many. She was a very active member in the First Baptist Church of Albany for the entire time that she called Albany her home.
The Morris family would like to thank the staff of Quiet Oaks Health Center for the care and kindness extended to our beloved sister and aunt.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 31, at 11 a.m., from the chapel of Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, located at 4355 Lexington Rd., Athens, GA. Burial will be in the family plot in the Colbert Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, August 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
