WINDER - Rev. John Abbott, 92, died Friday, August 27, 2010.
Born in Olive Hill, Ky., he was the son of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Lyons Abbott. He had resided in Warren, Ohio for 70 years, and had served as assistant pastor of The First Assembly of Pentecost in Braceville, Ohio. Rev. Abbott was employed by Copperweld Steel Manufacturing as an inspector. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and served as a combat paratrooper. He received a Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, European, African, and Middle Eastern Campaign Medals with four Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal and a Bronze Arrowhead.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Abbott; sons and daughter-in-law, Ted and Anita Abbott, all of Winder; grandchildren, Shelia (Tripp) Powers and Ted (Kidest) Abbott, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Abbott and Brooklyn Abbott.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 30, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Carter Funeral Home, with Pastor Tommy Baker officiating. Burial will be in Barrow Memorial Gardens with military honors.
