Mary Smith

Mary Claire Neal Smith, 25, Thomson, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008.

She was the daughter of Dr. Thomas Jefferson Neal Jr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Neal, of Thomson. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by grandparents, Dr. Thomas Jefferson Neal Sr. and Mrs. Thomas Jefferson Neal, and Mr. and Mrs. Farriel Williamson. She was a lifelong resident of Thomson, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Thomson, where she participated in both the Youth Fellowship and Pathway Choir. She graduated in 2007 from the University of Georgia with a degree in sociology, and was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She was employed by Baker and Taylor, Inc. in Commerce.

Survivors in addition to her parents, include her husband, Rodney Shane Smith; children, Maggie Smith, Austin Smith, and Colt Smith, all of Commerce; and a sister, Sara Neal Lokey (Cameron), Augusta; aunts and uncles, Nan and Billy Tam and Carrie and Linton Neal, all of Thomson; one great-aunt, Ivalee Meadows, Atlanta; and a number of cousins.

Graveside services were held Saturday, July 26, at Westview Cemetery with the Revs. Tom A. Kerr and David G. Bowen officiating.
