FLOWERY BRANCH - Retha "Nanny" Jane Roberts, 88, died very peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at her residence, following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.
She was born in White County, the daughter of the late Johnny Roberts and Callie (Jarrard) Roberts Potts. She retired from being a seamstress from Brown’s in Atlanta, The Home Place of Gainesville, and cleaning houses. She enjoyed being with family and friends and loved cooking for them. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, watching TV (especially her ╥stories╙), flowers, gardening and playing with her grandchildren and her dog, Precious. She was so many things to so many people. Nanny was always, always there for anyone who needed her. Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by sisters, Odell Whitley, Ruby Hopper, Pauline Dingler, and Johnnie Lou Roberts; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Hoyt and Lillie Roberts, Earl and Lois Roberts, brothers, George Roberts and E.K. Roberts; brother-in-law, Guy Alexander; special niece, Donna Lynn Dingler; and a grandson-in-law, Josh Sosebee.
She is survived by a daughter, Brenda Williams, Flowery Branch; granddaughters, Sherry Williams and Cindy Williams, both of Flowery Branch; other grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Bridget Sosebee, (Hannah, Rebecca, Joseph), Kelly Pichon (Isaac, Mekaila), Katrina Brock (Abigail); sister, Lucille Alexander, Cleveland; special nephews, Ricky Dingler and Russell Dingler; sister-in-law, Runette Roberts; and brother-in-law, Gary Hopper; her very loving protective dog, Precious; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, from the chapel of Memorial Park South Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery, Cleveland. The family will receive friends from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the funeral home.
Flowers will be accepted or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
