JEFFERSON – James Preston Edwards, 88, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010.
Born on April 23, 1922, in Talmo, he was the son of the late Sam and Della Church Edwards. He was a self employed carpenter, farmer, trout fisherman, and was a member of Oconee Baptist Church. Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by brothers, William, Robert, Dennis and Edgar Edwards; and a sister, Willa Mae Wykel. He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in North Africa, Italy and France.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Bonita Wright Edwards, Jefferson; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail Edwards and Lamar Weeks, Jefferson; grandson, Justin Weeks and his wife, Virginia, Jefferson; great-grandchildren, Annie Weeks and James Weeks; and a brother and sister-in-law, Doug and Sandy Edwards, Spartanburg, S.C.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 30, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Carlan officiating. Burial will be in Jackson Memorial Park in Commerce. Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Waldrop, Mark Edwards, Eddie Fleeman, Jeff Edwards, Brad Loggins and Rob Edwards. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
