COMER – James Samuel Patton, 75, died Sunday, July 11, 2010, following a courageous six weeks battle with cancer.
A native of Madison County, he was the son of the late William and Mary Lou Sanders Patton. He was a 1951 graduate of Comer High School and a member of the Comer United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge #404 and the Georgia Cattleman Association. He was an avid farmer and retired from the USDA as a meats and poultry inspector.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary Burton Langford Patton; children and their spouses, Patricia and Scott Carey, James H. and Melanie Patton, Doug and Ann Patton; grandchildren, Jamie Patton, Shelly Patton, Morgan Carey, Sam Carey, Savannah Patton, Duncan Patton and Jake Corey; uncle, Joe Sanders; cousin, Nona Meers; and three caregivers, Donna Barrett, Jennifer Pittman and Wanda Jackson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 13, at the Comer United Methodist Church with the Revs. Albert Askew and Hugh Hendrickson officiating. Burial was at Comer Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Madison County Agricultural Center or the Comer United Methodist Church.
Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, was in charge of arrangements.
