COMMERCE – Steve Jack Garrison Sr., 66, died Saturday, July 3, 2010.
Born in Commerce, he was the son of the late Swayne and Hazel Moss Garrison. He was raised in Toccoa until 1953 when his family relocated to Peoria, Ill., as his father continued his career with LeTourneau. The family returned to Georgia in 1957, this time settling in Commerce where his father would establish the family business, Commerce Tire Co., in 1959. As a teenager, Steve began working with his father and would eventually become owner of the business.
Mr. Garrison enjoyed travel, particularly traveling abroad, and spending time with his family on Lake Hartwell. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Commerce where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Janice McCollum Garrison; sons and daughter-in-law, Steve and Julie Garrison, Waleska and Kevin Garrison, Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Shell and Jason Withers, Commerce; granddaughters, Hannah Garrison, Leah Garrison and Lauren Withers; and brother, Paul Garrison, Lavonia.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 6, at First Baptist Church of Commerce with the Revs. Carlton Allen and Lee Ritchie officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Private inurnment will be at Grey Hill Cemetery.
Little-Ward Funeral Home, Commerce, is in charge of arrangements.

Very sad to learn of Steve's passing. I met Steve while I attended CHS (class of 61) Over the years, I enjoyed always talking with him on my many trips for tires. My thoughts and prayers will be with his family.
