COMMERCE – Hayward William Sorrow, 81, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at his residence.
Born on April 15, 1929, in Commerce, he was the son of the late Hope and Erma Holcomb Sorrow. He was retired from Harmony Grove Mills and was a member of Berea Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his family, playing the guitar, banjo and violin, singing, playing horseshoe and gardening. Mr. Sorrow was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jo Wood.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Evelyn Mealor Sorrow; daughters and son-in-law, Joanne Sorrow, Jill Sorrow, Janice and Ervin Ramsey; son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Barbara Sorrow; granddaughters, Jordan Ramsey, Erin Ramsey and Amanda Sorrow; grandsons, Nathan Sorrow and Andrew Sorrow.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 4, at 2 p.m., from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. Joel Sorrow officiating. Burial will be in the Midway Cemetery in Gillsville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, July 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times at the residence located at 190 Berea Church Rd., Commerce.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Samaritan Purse Operation Christmas Child.
