CARLTON – Rev. James Samuel “Jim” Spooner, 76, died Saturday, June 26, 2010.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., he was the son of the late James Dewy and Julia Dorothy Arms Spooner. He was a retired school teacher and a Methodist minister. Rev. Spooner was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Carpenter Spooner and a daughter, Julia Ann Spooner Pattison.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Spooner Wooten, Carlton; son, James W. “Jim” Spooner, Monroe; sister, Jane Stevens McElveath, Cartersville; brothers, George Roger Spooner, Byron, and John D. Spooner, Aiken, S.C.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 30, at 10 a.m., at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church with the Revs. Kennith Deitle, Calvin Ward, Bill Lloyd and Carolyn Morris officiating. Burial will be in the Asbury Cemetery in Otto, N.C. Pallbearers will be Alex Hunt, Christopher Hunt, Eric Hunt, Davis Keesee, Rhett Keesee and Zachary Sweat. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 29.
The family has requested memorials be made to Francis Asbury United Methodist Church Missions.
Berry Funeral Home, 1265 Washington Highway, Elberton, Ga., is in charge of arrangements.
