Mark Phillips

WINDER – Mark C. Phillips, 56, died Monday, June 21, 2010.

He was the son of Shirley Phillips of McDonough and the late Warren Wesley Phillips. He was retired as an operations supervisor with 30 years of service from the US Postal Service in Clayton County. He attended various churches, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

Survivors in addition to his mother include a son and daughter-in-law, Samuel M. and Katie Phillips, Pendergrass; twin brother, Michael B. Phillips, Alexandria, Va.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy W. and Deborah Phillips, Lawrenceville, Chris P. and Teri Phillips, Suwanee, Steve W. and Julie Phillips, McDonough; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pamela P. and Gary Griffith, Suwanee, Paige and Tony Bright, McDonough; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 25, at 11 a.m., from the Winder First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry L. Tippens officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 24, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Carter Funeral Home, Winder, is in charge of arrangements.

To Sam: Your father loved you so much and was always proud of you. You not only had a father/ son bond- you had a friendship. I will always remember the pride in his eyes the day you & Katie married. I will remember Mark's humor & his knowledge of life that he was so quick to share. Having you as a friend & neighbor is a blessing and getting to know your Dad because of it was a bonus gift.

We are always here for you & Katie. We love you both!

To the Phillips Family- Mark was a very special friend. He was always there for advice, encouragement or whatever the situation. He was a man of conviction and morals who loved his family, friends and his country and above all the Lord.
May it be of comfort to you of all the lives he touched.

What can we say? God works in ways that we don't understand sometimes. But we do know that he was a Great brother, son, father and uncle. He will be missed and we also know that he is smiling down on us, singing with the angels. We have a family that needs to be there for one another at this dark time. We are Bless to have a family like this one.

To the Phillips family: Please accept my sympathies. Those of us who only knew Mark through Michael will nevertheless miss him.

I promise that a time will come when the happy memories will outnumber the sad thoughts. It will take time but it will come.
