DANIELSVILLE – Rowena Long, 78, died Monday, June 21, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Madison County, she was born on March 10, 1932, the daughter of the late Roscoe H. and Vallie Ree Bennett Long. After graduation from Ila High School, she moved to the Atlanta area and worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement. She enjoyed the last 13 years living in the home place next door to her sister. She loved attending the Evangelical Methodist Church. Rowena loved and was loved by so many of her family and friends who affectionately called her “Aunt Row.”
Survivors include a sister and brother-in-law, Irene and Buddy Sexton, Danielsville; sisters, Nita Coile and Merle Logue, both of Cumming; several nieces and nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; and a special aunt, Idelle Short, Kannapolis, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 24, at 2 p.m., from the Evangelical Methodist Church with the Revs. Tim Peek, Bill Walker and Glenn Lyles officiating. Burial will be in the Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Denver Porterfield, Dallas Porterfield, Matthew Fortson, Jorge Teves, Roger Dudley and Winfred Carey. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. The family is at the home of Buddy and Irene Sexton.
The family also wishes to express appreciation to the cardiology nursing staff at Athens Regional Medical Center and especially Dr. Susan Kreher for all the loving care she was given during her illness.
