COMMERCE – Maryleen Evans, 96, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Peachtree Village.
Born in Jackson County she was the daughter of the late James N. and Mary Elizabeth Short Edwards. She was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church and was a Wal-Mart greeter. Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by her husband, Hoke S. Evans; and grandchildren, Emily Hill Coker and Bill Perry.
Survivors include a son, Harvey Evans, Del Rio, Tenn.; daughters, Betty Waller and Phyllis Jones, both of Commerce; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 4, at 11 a.m., from the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. Derry Oliver and Verlin Reece officiating. Burial will be in Short Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, June 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.
