Wilda Maddox Wilson, 91, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, in Charlotte, N.C.
She was born December 2, 1918, in Rebecca, the youngest of eight children of the late Guy Noil Maddox and Florence Carter Maddox, originally of Jackson County. A retired Muscogee County teacher, she was a 1940 Fine Arts graduate of Wesleyan Conservatory in Macon GA. She held a B.S. from Auburn University, an M.A. from Georgia State University, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. At St. Paul UMC, she sang in the choir and was a member of the Miller-Wilson Sunday School Class and the Glad Sallys Circle. A lifetime member of the United Methodist Women, she was recognized in 2000 as St. Paul UMW’s “Quiet Disciple” for her service to the church and community.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. John E. Wilson, who served Georgia Methodist churches in Midville, Soperton, Americus, Tifton and Columbus.
Survivors include a son Dr. John E. Wilson, Jr. and his wife Nana Wilson, Pittsburg, Pa.; son and daughter-in-law, Guy A. and Gloria Wilson, Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Jeffrey D. Wilson, Portsmouth, Va., Anne W. Jordan, Charlotte, N.C., Lauren L. Wilson, Pittsburg, Pa., J. Corbin W. Wilson, Boston, Mass., Roy W. Wilson, London, UK; great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Wilson Jordan, Charlotte, N.C., Chapin Wilson, Pittsburg, Pa. and Cole Wilson, London, UK.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday June 1, at the St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Ave. in Columbus, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA 31907. A private family graveside service will be held at Parkhill Cemetery prior to Mrs. Wilson's memorial service. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at St. Paul Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the St. Paul United Methodist Church, The Methodist Home for Children (Box 2525, Macon GA 31203), or your favorite charity in memory of Wilda Maddox Wilson.
