DANIELSVILLE – Billy McGilvary, 79, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at his residence.
Born in Barbour County, Ala., on January 26, 1931, he was the son of the late William Huey McGilvary and Ethel Agnes Land McGilvary. He was retired from the United States Army where he served tours of duty in the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. McGilvary was a member of the Bluestone Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Scroggins McGilvary, Danielsville; daughters, Joan Cross, Angie Brown, both of Danielsville and Kathy Widner, Phenix City, Ala.; brother, Fred McGilvary, Clayton, Ala.; sister, Dorothy Baker, Clayton, Ala.; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 20, at the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. George Lovley, Talmadge Ethridge and Ray Jenkins officiating. Graveside services will follow Friday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at the Lakeview Memory Gardens in Phenix City, Ala., with full military honors.
The body is at the funeral home where the family will receive friends Thursday, May 20, from 12 p.m. until the time of service. The family is at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20004.
Pruitt Funeral Home, Royston, is in charge of arrangements.
