HOMER – Calvin Smith, 63, died Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Athens Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born on May 30, 1946, in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Oliver and Maybelle Baugh Smith. He was the City Manager of Homer for over 28 years and was an avid golfer, fisherman and race car driver. He was of the Baptist denomination. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his brother, Eugene Smith.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Clark McCarty, Hull; sons and daughter-in-law, Calvin Todd Smith and Craig and Jamie Smith, all of Homer; sister, Geraldine Brake, Maysville; brother, Randy Smith, Liberty, S.C.; grandchildren, Malcom McCarty and Mitchell McCarty, both of Hull, Mason Todd Smith, Homer, and Alexis Smith, Commerce.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 18, at Homer Baptist Church with the Revs. Roy Rogers and Stacey Sims officiating. Burial will be at Banks County Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 17, at the funeral home.
