COMMERCE – Henry Grady “Dick” Perry, 72, died Monday, April 5, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Oconee County.
Born in Hull, he was the son of the late Luke Henry and Mellie McElreath Perry. He served six years with the United States Navy, six years with the Merchant Marines and had worked as deputy sheriff, the Chief of Police for Commerce and as a prison guard. He was of the Baptist denomination.
Survivors include his wife, Maulene McConnell Perry, Commerce; a son, Stuart Carlan, Commerce; stepson, Steve Carlan, Commerce; grandson, Eli Carlan, Commerce; siblings, Ambus R. Perry, Royston, L.G. Perry, Commerce, James H. Perry, Demorest, Robert Perry, Danielsville, Lamar Perry, Hoschton, Martha Black, Hull, and Grace Robertson, W. Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 8, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Ivie Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Owensby officiating. Burial will be in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m., and at other times at the home of Steve Carlan, 108 Cobblestone Ct., Commerce.
