COMMERCE – Harold Hardman McGinnis, 81, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospice House.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Guy Rueben and Woody Nellie Lou Crisler McGinnis. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. He also served on numerous committees in the church. He was a retired brick mason and a member of Brick Layers Union #7, was a retired Jackson County bailiff, and was a member of the Gideons International, honorary member of the Georgia Sheriff’s Association and a North Georgia College Alum. Mr. McGinnis was preceded in death by a son, John Darrell McGinnis.
Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Kathleen Sparks McGinnis, Commerce; daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila Ann and Aubry H. Scoggins and Cynthia Elaine (Cindy) and S. Clark Cutler III, both of Commerce; daughter-in-law, Betty Ann McGinnis, Dublin; sisters, Dorothy Trammell, Pine Mountain, and Lucille Sims, Maysville; grandchildren, Nick Andrew Scoggins, Chad Benjamin Scoggins, Alexander Darrell McGinnis, Aaron John McGinnis, Samuel Clark Cutler IV and Kathleen Ann Cutler; and a great-grandchild, Cade Phillip Scoggins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 1, at 11 a.m., at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with the Revs. Derry Oliver, Brad Wilson and James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, March 31, from 5 to 8 p.m.
